Congratulations. Very exciting getting the motor in. I think we have the same jack. Those rubber pads are awful aren't they?
Gunner_CAF wrote:The Motor when in tonight. I didn't have a much help as Lee had, so I had to improvise :) It was the reverse of how we took it out. We raised the cycle jack all the way and pushed it up to the work bench, then lowered the motor on the jack. With my son steadying the motor, I lowered the jack and motor, then rolled it under the frame. I lifted it up until the bolt holes lined up. The picture below, we just inserted the front bolt. Then we used the jack to position the motor for the remaining bolts. It worked quite well.

Good deal on getting engine in, a major milestone. Looks like you had a lot more controlled situation than I did. It just didn't seem worth it to rent a jack when I had all that assistance available. Nasty weather here's holding up my progress for a few days, so I'm working (offline) on a very long post to bring my restoration thread up to date. Thanks for sharing, Lee

I think we have the same jack, I saw it in your pictures. Yes, the pads are not the best, but it works. My Son took Grandma to Farm & Fleet one day and she bought it for him. If they come out with a better one, I just may drop him off at Grandma's for the day again :)

The frame is much lighter then the motor, so it makes a lot of sense. I hope you get some good weather, I look forward to seeing your progress.

A few setbacks, a little more progress today. I had a few runs in the clear on the headlight bucket, so I sanded them down with some 1500 on a stick. I scuffed it up and painted it again. I had a few dry spots after clearing the chain guard so I put another coat of clear on this.

The coils and ground to the motor when in. We soaked the rear peg rubbers in hot soapy water then put these on. I cleaned up the wiring harness and found some twisted and taped connections. I put on bullet connectors and repaired anything that looked bad. The rectifier went in and I extended the ground from the rear light to battery area.

The wiring harness is just laid out in the general location so I can figure out where all the connectors go to. I scraped the paint from the inside of the bolt holes for the coils, headlight and rectifier. I also plan to run some copper ground wires, but haven't got the far.

Gunner, your posts, along with those from Lee and Scott, are really informative & inspiring. I still get depressed when I open my garage door and see all the dust and crap around, all of which needs to be addressed before I can start tearing down. And, to make matters worse, the weather is beautiful again, now that Spring is here!

Dooooohh!
