Cappellini Products for CB77...Dear GG, In my experience with the Race Bikes there have not been any issues with oil starvation. However baffles are fitted and also a windage trays under the g/boxes. None of this I believe is necessary on a road bike . The use of a magnet in the drain plug is a very good thing. Anything to keep particles away from entering the oil pump. We have done comparisons using the same brand oil in 250, 350 and 500 Superhawk racers and at the end of one race meeting the oil in the 250 comes out looking almost as it went in. The 350 oil comes out well discolored and the 500 oil absolutely black. I think it is pretty self explanatory that the greater the load, the greater the wear. All our engines are preheated for about an hour before running using heat guns to minimize cold starting wear and tear. Again with the centrifugal filters we found very little in the 250, more in the 350 and even more in the 500. All the best Jerry
Slight veer off topic....
Based upon some earlier discussion in this thread, I finally bought myself a magnetic drain plug (the red one from Sirius Consolidated), and installed it about a week ago. I was giving the bike a once-over last night in preparation for a ride this morning, and noticed that oil was seeping out from it (and there was a bit of oil on the floor). I think the fact that the bolt head is a 14mm and not like the original 17mm, and the fact that the washer is also a tad smaller than the OEM 17mm head is causing this to happen (yes the bolt was tight!). So rather than chance things, I drained the oil yet again and installed the OEM bolt. I'm going to give Sirius Consolidated a call next week to talk with them about this. I had a feeling that the smaller bolt head was going to be an issue, and at least in my case it turned out that my suspicions were correct. Ah well -- still on the quest for a good magnetic drain bolt.
Find a small bar shaped magnet with a diameter smaller than your drain bolt, drill a hole in the bolt to allow the magnet to fit inside, fix the magnet inside the bolt with some 2 part epoxy glue, you then have a magnetic drain plug.
Another way is to use PTFE tape on your new 'Sirius Consolodated' bolt threads along with a washer of the correct size. 1977 CB400F

Been a while since this thread first started. I did purchase the oil filter conversion kit about a year ago, but never got around to installing it (I was concerned about having to spend an additional $400 for the Cappellini oil pump). My mechanic John installed the oil filter kit this week, and he reports that the stock oil pump works just fine with the kit.
