New Superhawk Owner
taillight bracketWas Mr. Silver thinking about scramblers, which in my understanding all came with black tailight brackets? Honda lore picked up mostly from here says that if a CB has a black bracket it was either repainted at some point, or previous owner asked their local Honda shop for a replacement and were sold one for a scrambler. Just thought I'd throw that in.
Beautiful bike, nice job. Frustrating not to be able to ride it, no? Mine's not quite there, a small but critical last minute setback I'll detail when I get a chance, so I know how you feel, trying to be patient. Perfect riding weather in Texas, dang it. Maybe by this weekend! -- Lee
Re: taillight bracketAnother myth? Mr. Silver was addressing the CB77 bikes at that time and nothing about the CL bikes was included in his early publications. Why if ever would a new buyer look at the silver bracket and ask for another color? Yes the Scramblers came with color matching parts but not the Hawk/Super Hawk. Would ya expect to see a Blue or Red Hawk/Super Hawk with a Red/Blue LP bracket? Have ya ever seen one issued by HONDA? I have pics of test articles which show that most of the CB72 bikes may have had Black LP brackets and that said keep in mind that the test bike was Black not one of the other colors. Don't confuse the LP bracket on the Black, Red or Blue bikes with the WHITE DREAM LP Bracket cause it was Black. Imagine an All White bike with a Silver LP bracket. That same bike came with a Black center stand also same as all of the CB72/77 bikes. As for me I don't really care what color anyone wants these parts to be. I simply pass on what "was" and if ya want your bike to be correct ya have been told. Do as ya like. ...............lm
RIDE IT DON'T HIDE IT!
Last weekend we moved the bike from the family room to the garage. It was a rainy cold weekend, so it was a good time to finish up the work we couldn't do in the basement. I have a few minor issues to work out, but I will post more when it goes on the road.
I went to the DMV to register it and get a plate. All went well until the lady at the desk turned over the registration form and asked me to fill in some federal number that should be on the bike. I told her, I know every inch of the bike, and there are only two numbers stamped on the bike, and there is no other numbers on it. She said I can't register the bike. She said the bike needs to have this number or it doesn't meet the safety standards in the US. I asked what I needed to do to get this. She looked it up and found this number is only needed if the motorcycle was made after 1972. Whew, OK, I'm good to go. Then she conferred with another lady and found another regulation saying it needed to be checked out by the State Police to certify it is road worthy. They then noticed it was previously registered in the state so that didn't apply. Well, they took my money, gave me a registration and plate. I guess they don't get many people registering 60's motorcycles every day. Gunner Looking good. Can't wait to see her in the daylight.
