Has anyone fixed a horn?

Post by 68Cb77 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 5:15 pm

My horn made one beep when I put the bike back together, then quit. I checked and the wires had juice. I tore most of the horn apart, clean the contacts and cleaned the points that are in there.Put it back together, still is getting 12 volts, but just clicks once. That's as far as I have tore it apart. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem? Thanks, John.

68cb, Have you tried looking into the ground for the horn? Make sure the area where the horn contacts the the frame mount is clean. Kustommusic

oh jeez, no. I thought if there was 2 wires going to the horn it wouldn't need to be grounded. Frame was powder coated too! I'll check that out this weekend. Thanks.

68, OMG you are probably right,I was "shooting from the hip" on that one. OK I had to look this up. The horn should have 12 volts going to it with the key in run pos. The horn button will supply the ground to the horn to make it work. I apoligize for the misinformation,I guess its late or somthing. Now you should find the problem knowing how it works. Again sorry for the bum info the first time, you may beat me with an old wiring harness!! Kustommusic

68, when you have the cover off of the horn, you will see a phillips head screw with a spring underneath it. Use an independent 12 volt pwer source, and adjust that screw until horn honks satisfactorlly.
