CB 77 Drive Chain

Am restoring 1964 CB77 and am in need of a chain for the bike.I believe it has a 34 tooth sprocket for the rear hub.Can anyone tell me What size chain and how many link I need for this bike? Thanks Butch

Hi Butch,

For the CB72, it's 34 tooth, since you have a CB77 it should be 30 tooth, so front 15 tooth, rear 30 tooth is standard for CB77. Chain is 530, 94 links if standard.

I purchased one from my local Honda dealer and another one from my local motorcycle
repair/parts shop.
I think J.C.whitney sells them too.

What is the proper procedure on maintenance of oil filter on CB 77? Just remove and clean?

Yes, Make sure you get the thrust bearing in the right location when you put it back together. You will find several posts here about this.

Check ebay, type in " 530 chain". Basically, the more you spend, the higher quality cahin you will get. I'd personally avoid an o-ring chain, as the are heavier, and rob power. You can get a chain in the correct length, or if you're not sure of your gearing, but one a few links longer, and cut to correct size.
