Newbie

Post by chrisnoel » Sat Sep 11, 2010 12:33 pm

Newbie here to 305.com I am wondering what year I have. Other than that just wanted to make an introduction and see if any other members from Colorado Springs or neerby are interested in meeting and sharing knowledge first hand.

So far I'm in the middle of my CB750 sandcast restoration and I have restored a few other motorcycles. Just found CB77-1055763 and I'm excited to now be a Super Hawk owner. I'm thinking it would be a 68 but if it is a 67 that would be nice to know. Motor isn't stuck and it's just about compleet. Seat is ripped up and the bars are later enduro bars but It's in for a compleet tear down so none of that really matters. Just glad it's all in tact so I don't have to search high and low for impossible to find parts. Badges are missing :( but I'll see if I can get some re-pops from a source I know of in Australia. Good luck on that one, I'm sure.

Thanks, Chris.

Welcome to the forum.
From the number, looks like you have one of the last models, which should make it a 67, the year production ceased.
We love pics, and the sandcast too!

What were the inclusive vins for the 67 model year? Also wondering if the chrome fenders are the way they came or if I could paint them silver to match the side covers and forks? I see a picture of one all in white in my vintage japan motorcycle guide and I might concider doing it that way as well.

Going to make a rider out of this one so I'm not going to re-chrome everything unless it has to be that way to be correct.

I think that the chrome fenders (mudguards to us Brits) were standard equipment for the late CBs. Personally I prefer the silver but it's your bike and your choice.

I have Bill Silver's engine book here and the production figures are listed for 1965-1967 as

CB77E-1000001 to 1056494

Yours sounds towards the end of that range.

Try Ray Byrne for the badges - he does a great job at sensible prices. RRHByrne@aol.com

My engine # is E 5844 but I'm getting the impresion that this is one of those models that specific year is hard to pin down. Nice to know it is late enough to be in the 67 year for sure though. I'm thinking the bars are CL72 and I'm not sure of the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster looks like the one above being used as the H305 icon. Seemed strange to me that the tach would red line at 9K when the CB77 hits max power at 9K. I'll get some pics up today so we can pick out the non CB77 parts. I have a pic of the sandcast as a roller with engine as it is right now that I'll post too.

Chris

That's a late model tach. Early ones had the needles rotating in opposite directions. The bike looks really nice from the pics. It will look really sweet when you have it tidied up.
