Is there an easy way to compress the rear shocks? I took mine apart to clean and paint and i'm having difficulty compressing them enough to get the clips back in.

compressing shocks for re-assembly
The easiest and safest way I've found is just to put on some rubber gloves for a good grip, grab the cover and push it toward the floor to compress the spring. Have a helper standing by to insert the keepers. Make sure the adjustable ring is on the lowest setting. If you don't weigh more than about 150 lbs... you need one more helper.

This is a great, labour-saving device; makes the job child's play. Not cheap, though!big-b wrote:Is there an easy way to compress the rear shocks? I took mine apart to clean and paint and i'm having difficulty compressing them enough to get the clips back in.

i didnt want to risk scratching the new paint on my shock covers, so i decided against using the spring compressor i had used to take them apart.
i had my friend press the shock covers down while pushing the entire shock against the floor and we didnt have much success. i hung the shock on a very sturdy ceiling hook and my friend was better able to use his weight/gravity to pull the covers down while i put the retainers in place.
