Cafe Seat from a Regular Seat Pan

Post by aerojack7654 » Fri Feb 28, 2014 9:01 pm

hey folks,
I just wanted to post some photos of my latest attempt at making a more cafe or "race" seat using the regular SuperHawk seat pan. It started with a pan from ebay (kept my original seat) and after derusting and POR15 coating it, I built up the nose and tail with very firm pink foam, as well as building a semi hollow seat section with soft foam in the openings. Covered that with the firm pink, and then a softer composite foam, then went at it with a coarse sanding disk on my grinder. Foam dust everywhere! After cleaning the garage (did I say that foam dust was everywhere?), I took the thing to a local upholstery shop and had it covered to at least capture the essence of the Honda race seat with the pleated, velour seat cover and the smooth sides. I unfortunately didn't take pictures of the foam build up (too engrossed to think about it!), but I'm quite happy with the results, it's way more comfortable that the stock seat - I spent some time during the shaping to make sure it was conforming to my posterior's expectations. I didn't take any shots on the bike yet since it is disassembled during its big bore kit installation and valvetrain update. As soon as everything is back together, I'll post some pics of that.
