Scored today! Got a CB77....Scored today! Got a CB77....I've been lurking here since I discovered a '64 Superhawk "barn" bike, in my home town, two years ago. Got the call that they were no longer interested and bam, it's in my garage. I am so happy right now; a true straight, no missing parts, white CB77! It last ran in 1981. Pictures to follow... C. :)
pics here....Nothing missing. Tool kit there. Is that red stripe on the rear fender stock or was it added?
Edit: Sorry, this was supposed to be the post with pics... keep going

light sparkI'm working on pics, my first try they were too big.
I pulled the plugs and sprayed a little Kroil in there. I had moved the pistons with the kick start to see if the engine was seized but only a little. I didn't want to do any more without oil. This bike last ran in 1981. Checking spark, I got a weak intermittent spark on the left and no spark on the right. I pulled the points and crank covers and cleaned the points with cardboard and reset them. They were off a little and I think one of the screw might be stripped; it didn't tighten very convincingly. Still only spark on the left and not very hot. I used plastic wrap in the points and adjusted them to just opening at the marks. I thought this would get me close enough to see if the ignition worked. I'm a 55 yo mechanic with lots of experience but not sure what my next move is. How sensitive is the whole mag/ignition to new or real clean points and plugs? Don't worry, I will be searching the archives but I thought I would slip in a freebie as a newbie. I love the bike! I will get it fixed no matter what it takes, it's just too straight and original. Working on the pics. Thanks in advance, C.
If it was me I would connect a external car battery, add fresh oil to the engine and a little down the bore. Crank the starter motor with a few bursts to get the oil pumping. For me at least I found a poorly charged battery affected the spark on my bike more than I would have expected normally. You could touch the spark plug to the barrel to gauge the spark and see if there is any difference.
Congratulations on getting the bike. Your are on the right track with the points, I would drag a paper match through them. These points work on 12v and are easy to keep working. Try switching plugs to check again. Set the non running side to closed, then open and let snap closed a couple times, with a screw driver, they should start working.
