Simply put the wheel and tire are aligned properly, but the rear fender is canted off to one side. So much so that the right side of the fender is lined up with the right side of the tire. In bolting things back on there didn't seem to be a lot of latitude for adjustments. Any ideas how I might bring the fender back to center over the tire?
Thanks

CL77 rear fender alignment

Post by ramwing7 » Thu Sep 01, 2016 1:53 pm

Welp. I've managed to get it as close to straight as I think I'm going to get it.
I was a lot more careful in aligning the wheel with the bike (getting it straight in the swing arm) and I tweaked the rear grab rail a bit. Seems to have mostly straightened it out, but I really think that this bike may have taken a hit to the rear corner sometimes in it's long life.
Thanks to everyone for their input.

Mine has the same problem. I'm pretty sure the seat/shock mount sub frame is bent as the shocks aren't quite vertical. It's been that way for the 30 years I've had it. One day I'll get around to fixing it.....

You may have mixed parts..........'66 and earlier vs '67. The fender brace on a '67 is a different from all others and may have been tweaked to 'make it fit'.

I would check the swing arm for twist. Remove it from the motorcycle and re-insert the swing arm and rear axle to see if they are in the same plane, viewed from the front or the rear.
