cl 300

Post by rustywrench » Sun Oct 22, 2017 9:51 pm

Since my heart is in the scramblers, they catch my eye sooner than others. I came across one in east Oregon on CL and listed as a cl300. Seller said it is rare so I did some reading here and found out he was right. Not many of them made. Wheels, Hubs, pipes were in very good shape and worth more than the $550 asked so I pulled the trigger and will pick it up next week.
Frame cl300 1000175 eng. cl300E 1000189. I had no idea these even existed. Now I own one. Now the parts collection begins.

For what it is worth, I used to re size my pics to600x800 for the forum and attach them. Now we have to open a photo account elsewhere and go that way? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! No pics yet, but when I get to that I'll get some posted here. Rusty

It will be interesting to see that.

I use Flickr.com for my pictures.

CL300

Post by DJM » Mon Oct 23, 2017 5:19 am

I think visually they are much the same as the CL77 we all know and love.

I'm pretty sure that it was a Japanese market version with a 360 degree crank. Gear ratios are slightly different too, NOT just 'crossed' standard gears as has been previously suggested.

Possibly different ratios to suit the power characteristics of the 360 degree engine which actually produces slightly more power that the 180 degree version until near peak revs are reached when the 180 degree motor gains a bit extra.

Heal/toe shifter, park light in the headlight, early domestic CL72/CB72 were 360 cranks (I own a domestic '63 CL72), all of the CL300's I've seen are 180's. This one belongs to a friend: http://the1moto.com/bikes/2013/5/8/1967-cl77-honda

The only domestic 305 (other than CA's) I've seen with a 360 crank is Paul Strassmier's '63 CP77.

Your friends bike has many parts which are not correct for a CL300.
I have a CL300 with a matching numbers 360 engine. ...............lm

Thank you all for the feedback. it is clear to see that since I don't have a title on this one the best I can expect is some nice parts to count on. I was hoping that the 300 series was a limited time import making it a rare find. I'll keep it around and maybe turn it into a logging road bike. Now on to setting up to post pics. Rusty

OK, it's a start. Still working on the process. Rusty
