CL72 shocks squeaking

Post by AZscrmblr » Thu Apr 23, 2020 5:05 pm

I have a 1964 CL72 and the rear shocks squeak when I bounce up and down on the suspension. I have put some lube on the pivot points for the shock eye mounting points but that did not solve the problem. Looks like I need to remove the shocks and disassemble and lube them. They are the eye to eye style shocks. Can anyone explain how to disassemble them.

I pulled the shocks off the bike and held them upright while I sprayed WD40 and some white lithium grease around the retainers near the top eye mount. This seemed to provide enough lubrication at the top of the internal spring to make the squeaking go away.
