If 100% originality is your thing then this won't apply to you.

But if you are looking for a quick, inexpensive reliable replacement to your
deteriorated rubber bumpers for your air cleaner covers, than try this.
I had ordered at a cost of $12.00 for four, new silicone rubber bumpers, but for the life of me I could not get them inserted in their respective holes. Grr#@%!

So I found these GM replacement (799-120) door inserts made by Dorman at Autozone at a fracton of the cost for a quantity of 15. They work great and actually look pretty good. Though they fit snug, I reinforced then on the back side with a spot of 3M weather strip adhesive. And no one can see them! (Unless you take the Air cleaner covers off.) Ha!

Another possibility are those cardboard drawers in mom and pop hardware stores with all the specialty hardware. One of those has rubber bumpers of various types and I found one that is exactly the correct height. Only problem is the stem is a little small for the hole in the Honda bracket. I solved it with some contact cement.

My bike has two originals and two of those replacements. They ain't no 12 bucks, either!!

...or another possibility which I opted for when I couldn't find a suitable bumper was to loop a short length of rubber fuel hose through the two bumper holes which can be adjusted to suit your specific need, and with the Scrambler, it gave the perfect tension to hold the side covers in place with no rattles, limp looks etc. and it was (and looks) cheap. Clearly 100% originality isn't my thing!
