Front Brake Linkage Installation Confusion

Post by Dr. Frankenstein » Wed Apr 10, 2019 5:41 am

How do you correctly install the front brake line at the front hub?

On my CA77, the very front of the line - the part with the spring on it - will go through the mounting hole, but then gets stopped by the arm itself, which is not completely round: it has a little "T" shaped piece at the end of it where it continues up into the brake line itself. That little T prevents it from seating in the brake line mount-hole, and it just Looks wrong...

Meanwhile the brake line itself has a collar on it that APPEARS to want to fit into the brake line mount, but that abovementioned T prevents it from fitting; and pulling back the spring between the collar and the spring-arm is no help, because it doesn't want to pull back, to fit into the brake line mount.

Any tips...?

Ok Doc, hopefully this is the flicker link to a photo of the front brake cable set up.

Thanks Geoff; I'll give it a shot tomorrow; I've spent the afternoon changing out a bad tire for a not-so-bad tire, only to find the stem is leaking. I tried to take it out and it crumbled, leaving the valve inside...installed the carburetor, aligned the chain, put on the upper chain guard...I'll have to post some before and (during) after pics...its come a long way.

Any idea on how to get a valve out when its little lips break away...?

Sounds like that tube is destined for the bin.

Yeah; I was thinking I might be able to get a screw in there and get it out that way, but haven't tried yet.
