Hello everyone. New Dream enthusiast here and new to the site. I have a semi-basket case 1965 CA77 that I am trying to slowly restore and put back on the road.
My starter clutch is not engaging. I'm guessing it needs a good cleaning, or it is just weak springs. I have a shop and a parts manual, neither of which gives a good description of how to pull the parts to get to the clutch.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks in advance,
Kirk
'65 CA77 starter clutch not engaging...
Re: '65 CA77 starter clutch not engaging...Remove the rotor and the starter assy. is on it. ..........lm
RIDE IT DON'T HIDE IT!
Will I need to pull the entire right cover, or can it be pulled through the dynamo cover? And I guess I either need to drop the starter motor or take the starter gear off to slip off the starter chain?
I was reading where the rear axle is the same pitch thread and can be used as a puller. Is this correct? Thanks again.
Well....I figured out why the starter clutch wasn't engaging....
One of the 3 previous owners must have decided that it was just too much weight to carry around. I tore it apart today AND IT WASN'T THERE!!!! Unbelievable. But on a lighter note, I got the bike running for the first time after being buried in a garage in a state of neglect for over 30 years. I rebuilt the carb, installed new plugs, new points, a new oil seal behind the plate for the points, gapped everything correctly, rigged up a temporary fuel tank, gave her a few kicks, and she came to life!!!!! YES!!!!!! I had to re-do the carb a couple times and I finally figured out that the float level was way off, keeping fuel from coming through the float valve. I let her run for a bit to warm up, then changed out the nasty oil and let her warm up again and then fine tuned the carb. I'm very happy!!!!!! Lots of good info on this board. I hope I can contribute. Now I just need to find a TON of parts. - Kirk
