4TH GEAR SPUTTERING

Post by ROBM50 » Wed Jan 14, 2009 10:00 pm

HEY GUYS! I'VE GOT A SMALL CONCERN ABOUT MY BIKE CRUISING IN 4TH GEAR. IT RUNS GREAT AND SHIFTS SMOOTHLY THROUGH ALL THE GEARS. IT'S JUST THAT AFTER I'VE REACHED 4TH AND AM CRUISING ALONG, IF I EASE OFF THE THROTTLE SLIGHTLY, THE ENGINE DOES A SLIGHT BUT CONSISTENT SPUTTER UNTIL I THROTTLE UP AGAIN AND IT READILY RESPONDS AND SMOOTHS OUT. IS THIS THE NATURE OF THESE BIKES (305 DREAM) OR IS THIS A PROBLEM THAT CAN BE RESOLVED? ROB ...... ATTACHED IS A PHOTO OF MY BIKE[/img]

Check to make sure your exhaust system does not have any leaks from the heads all the way to the end of the pipes. If the bike runs fine but when letting up on throttle you get a backfire it is possible that a leaking exhaust is letting air in the pipes and with some unburned fuel ( letting up on throttle) allowing it to ignite in the pipes.

THANKS DEADDOG! I WILL CHECK THAT OUT BUT IT'S NOT REALLY A BACKFIRE. THE ENGINE EXHIBITS A SUDDEN LOSS IN POWER MORE LIKE SMALL JERKING UNTIL I THROTTLE UP AND IT SMOOTHS OUT READILY.....
