LED taillight vs. Incandescent taillight test with pictures

Post by paperslammer » Sat Oct 16, 2010 2:09 am

I bought this LED light and from superbirght leds and wanted to just show the differences I found

The bulb is a BA15 45 High Power LED Tower bulb, color white (1157-W45-T). It cost $24.95. I found it here. Below is a comparison of it to the incandescent bulb. I used my camera on manual setting, so none of the settings changed between the shots, i.e. no exposure times changed.

Here is the without the brake light:

With brake applied:

At 12 Volts, this draws 35mA (brake NOT applied) and 235mA (brake applied). [ stats here]. Thats 0.42W and 2.82W. Does anyone know how this compares to the incandescent?

Nice!

That's less than 10% of the power consumption of the incandescent type (taillight).

Good & bright too! I like the difference in light output between the tail and stop; mine (LED-Ace) isn't that much brighter between the two modes in comparison to yours.

The led's are great. I replaced all of the bulbs on my Goldwing and gained a full volt of charge at idle.

I however used red led's for the tail lights (recommended by the manufacturer)

Have had them in for 5 years with no burnouts.
