Kick starter and side cover removal

Getting ready to drop the engine off my '63 CA77 and I need to remove the clutch cable. Thought it may be easier to remove the cable from the side cover rather than try to figure out the routing through the frame. I was trying to figure out how to remove the kicker and perhaps the shaft.

If I remove the side cover, will the kicker and the shaft just come out with the side cover or do I need to remove the kicker from the splined shaft? Anything to be aware of like flying springs?

Any help would be appreciated on best practice to remove this..

Steve, the kicker will stay with the cover,you can take it off the shaft but it's a real "JOY" to get back together. make sure you remove the stator cover first........D

Thanks DG, I've had fun with lining things up with my nose stuck in the covers before and I can hardly wait.....

...but curious why the stater cover needs to come off. I have removed it, but do I need to actually remove the stater and/or the 6 bolts holding it on?
