Ignition Switch Rebuild/Restore

Post by Narly9999 » Wed Mar 09, 2011 1:02 am

OK, I did some searching and well time is money. Nothing on this site seems to have photos or info about the position of the contacts inside the CA78/CA77 Ignition switch. Inside there are three contact parts that have three contacts on each part which goes though elaborate connections as you turn the key. Nice job who ever designed that little monster. So anyways, Do they all go with the points to the triangles facing out of the switch or are some of the points facing in and others facing out? By points I mean the three contacts have three points on them which are in a triangle pattern. The design will only allow for [two points(Or bottom of the triangle)] or one point facing out. I guess I could figure this out but I'm not going to think that hard today. I'll proably have the answer before anyone answers this.

IN a short note: I took it apart gingerly. It's a very simply put together and if you are careful, you can bend things just enough to have it come apart. I suggest a jewlers drawer/table(And area with a cloth draped under the work area as in a drawer with no bottom to it but a cloth covering the bottom) since these parts are small. And if you are not careful, they fly out! There are Spring loaded parts with roller balls like BBs and such.

Thanks for any help! And Good luck to you if you take one apart.
:)

Triangle contacts in switch

I had my switch apart and figured out the correct order, but didn't take pictures. There is another thread started by bjshealy where this picture was posted.

Switch configuration.

Ahhh yeah. Thank You Thank You. Don't ask me how I did it. BUt I looked closely at the switch and came up with that configuration. I was noticing two of the three had the spring location slightly inwords from the other. And the connectors slightly adjusted in the direction of the two points. Seeing this picture sure helps confirm I got it right. Much appreciated. :-)
