Newbie ith newbie questions
Newbie ith newbie questionsI have just purchased two dreams (if they are bad dreams is yet to be determined). one is a 65 and one is a 66. Both rough shape andI have little mechanical experience. I have ordered the restoration guide from bill silver. I have included pictures......what do you think? Also what is that metal in the rear? is that mounts for bags? they seem to hold up exhaust also. I will have many more questions going forward.
You have some great aftermarket bits on that black (or is it blue?) bike: The luggage rack (is that a Buco?), Buco bag mounts, front and rear 'bumpers', front fender chrome cap and front 'winkers' All good!
Looks like you have some original tank badges there, too! Can't tell from the pics, but if your chain guard is intact and your carb covers (the silver triangular bits that sit right behind the cylinder head) are both there you definitely scored! That 2-tone seat's some kinda custom job, but I like it. With a little polish and some new mufflers and handlebars that bike's gonna be a beauty. '63 CA77 - Giving me all kinds of headaches.

Chrome questionI do have lots of chrome on the bike, but most of it is bad. What are the alternatives to rechroming? I am looking to make it rideable and lot cool. Not trying for full restoration.
If it's not too badly rusted- surface rust- try rubbing it down with a soapy Brillo pad. That brought a LOT of my chrome back to life. A good rubbing with plain tin foil can actually be pretty effective, too.
