I bought it!I bought it!Well, I took the plunge and ended up buying a 1962 Dream 305. It's in pretty good shape. The engine sounds and runs well and cosmetically, not too bad. (Got it home late last night so I will add pics maybe tomorrow). There's some rust in the gas tank so I'll have to read up on how to get rid of that. The speedometer was replaced (with another 1962) but the miles are now incorrect. The orignal speedo had 10k on it, the new one has 25k. Can I rollback the miles on the new one so it's accurate? The only thing else I noticed (it's only been a day!) is that its really hard to pull the brake and clutch levers. I'm hoping they need some lub (or is that just how these old bikes are?) I'm sure I'll have tons of questions and be in here often, so thank you in advance for all your help!
Hard to pull? I suppose that is relative. Mine are harder to pull than the ones on my CB750 but I don't notice it being hard unless I've just ride something else.
They very well could use some lube. You do have drum brakes which will naturally take a bit more effort. I have NEVER taken a dream speedo apart and I imagine someone who has will speak up but in general old speedo's will come part to allow you to reset mileage without too much effort. Please, do post pics. Congrats. Here's some pics! I'm missing a mirror. The kick start arm isn't attached (the angle of the knuckle has to be adjusted) and the mufflers look pretty good, but they have some raised spots. Could it be rusted from underneath? It doesn't flake off when you touch it. It's hard. The seats in really good condition. I can't imagine it being original. The Honda letters are pealing off the back. Both the front and rear fender flips are in tact and the rims look pretty good. It needs a real good cleaning and polishing, a new paint job and I'm sure lots of stuff I don't know about yet! This is going to be a loooong project but at least I can use it while I fix it up.
