Struggling to start
Points should have started to open at this point. Can't really tell from the pics, but it looks like they haven't. Looks like your ignition timing is fully retarded (points plate rotated fully clockwise). The points gap is less important than the timing. Points need to break at the "F" mark, checked with a light or buzzer. Once you get it going, I would also check it with a timing light at idle, and at about 3000 rpm to make sure the advance is working properly.
Hubby has to work today, and I have a birthday party for my nephew, so the bike is going to have to wait until tomorrow. I know we will conquer this issue, thanks for all your help and suggestions. We are using the process of elimination! We will be putting the OLD points back on the Denso plate, ( I believe LM try to school me on this earlier and I didn't understand ). It seems that the points that we bought, might not be compatible with the backing plate. So, with that being said, at least we know the "internals" are set up correctly and we didn't mess anything up in there. So now, we will continue our process of ruling things out. Anyone out there have a suggestion for a new condenser? We will try replacing that, and if that doesn't work, we will move to something else.
Update:
We changed the points back to the original points, and they are definitely different than the ones we replaced them with. They were off by .10. So, after that and some minor adjustments, and new spark plugs, she wants to start, but just won't. The coil seemed to be sparking ok and then the coil started to get hot and soon after the spark seemed to be less and less. I have another coil coming in the mail this week. So we shall see what happens after that. I have replaced the condenser with a new one, and we have readjusted the float level. So, that's where we are at this point. I am starting to wonder if this bike is meant to be.
