I think it's paint. That's why I want to have mine polished. Looks a lot better.

Side cases are painted. The engine cases,head, and cylinder are all bare aluminum. Do a search for recommended color match for silver paint.

The guy I just bought my bike from gave me a can of some paint that Bill Silver steered him to. Perfect match. I'll post the name of it when I get home.
