Does Anyone Have A Trick For Dismantling Rear Shock Assembly

Post by hunterst8810 » Thu May 16, 2013 3:22 pm

A question for the group....If you look at the exploded view drawings from Honda for the rear shock assembly on a Dream, the chromed lower cover should come off (I bought a pair that has no rust to replace the ones I have). If you go by the drawing, the top shock mount should unscrew from the shock cylinder rod. When I turn mine, the entire rod assembly turns also. I suspect its seized up on the threads. Does anyone have a suggestion short of destroying the shock to get the chromed lower cover off?

I made a clamp to compress the shock. Underneath the top eye is a locknut. Back off the locknut and you should be able to get the top eye off.

You could make a similar clamp using wood if need be.
