Sealed beam headlight conversion

Post by casamere » Mon Jul 24, 2017 9:51 am

Just attempted a conversion on my sealed beam headlight as the dip beam filament had blown.
Everything went ok but not impressed with the low beam brightness, main beam good but I don't ride at night so no problem. Went with a bulb 40/45 as wasn't sure how much room I had between glass and reflector.
Now the conversion is done might try an H4.

The problem with an H4 is that it will almost double the current draw compared to original and there's precious little to spare. I'll have to do this at some point but I will probably install one of the LED replacements for a standard lamp like the H4.

You also have some control over the aiming of the high and low beams. Although the bulb should be centred axially, its position along the axis (i.e. in or out) will have a large effect on where the light goes. It would be good to play with this before permanently fastening it.

Thanks.

Did you just weld the bulb to the reflector or is there a socket there that I don't see?
