removing steering races on a '66 CA78

Post by JAI » Sat Aug 18, 2018 7:21 pm

Newbie looking for info on how to remove the steering races on my 66 CA78. Is there a special tool or technique to do this without damaging them? Also, how can I reinstall them? Is there an easy way to make sure they go in straight?

Just use a long drift through the headstock and tap them out.

They can be tapped back in using a hammer & drift. Tap gradually around the perimeter and observe how they are going in. You can also make up a puller with a piece of all-thread and a couple of large discs of alloy.
