New C77 owner

Hello everyone, I'm new here, have been reading a bit and very much like this forum. I just bought myself a 1961 C77. Hadn't been used for a few years, bit rusty but in relatively good shape. I put in a new battery, set the correct float level (carburetor was leaking) put a bit of oil here and there and got it started. No scary noises and no smoke. The clutch was stuck but I managed to free that too. Now I will take it apart and check everything before riding it. The wiring is a bit of a mess, sometime in its life there was a short so I will have to replace some molten wires. The tail light is non original, will have to find another one. Also the handlebars came from another bike. Not sure if that was a C77 because the indicators are different from any other C77 that I saw till now. My other bikes are a 1967 Honda SS50, a 1968 Honda C310, a 1973 MV Agusta 350 and a 1970 Triumph Bonneville. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Wow, nice buy. You have plenty to work with there. You may be aware that those pressed handle bars were standard on some of the early models. Those with more experience on this forum will be able to confirm from engine& frame numbers.

I think your bike will look fantastic with a bit of paint, time and money.

Thank you, yes I'm aware the early models have pressed steel handle bars but the indicator lenses normally have screws in the front. With this bike the screws are fitted from underneath.

very very cool bike. all of the lighting was different for different markets (countries) you may have something from some odd market. is the the tail light bracket welded on?

I think your handlebars may be off a C71 or C76. Check out pictures on eBay or here at CMS.

The guy said he's bought a 1961 bike, don't think the C77 was out that early only a 71 or 72
But after reading this the guy could be onto a winner....

I have a 1960 C77-A. One of the first 250 in the USA. Forerunner of the C77. The bike in this post is certainly pre ‘63. I also have a 1960 C72. I’m going to restore them as a pair.
