Post by Rogermeiner » Sat Feb 02, 2008 3:10 pm

I have a set of 1964 ca77 mufflers Good news-no rust, bad news-dents. Has any one had luck at cutting the seams. fix the dents and re-weld than re chrome ? Or spot welding on pins and pull the dents out. Any suggestions appreceiated.

just a thought....if you pulled the baffles out could you get a tool in there to work them out?

if that doesn't work you could try the welded on pins like the body shops use , they go on with a special spot welder tool as you seam to be aware, and the use the puller . if all the spot welds were on the bottom you could just touch them up with some stainless steel paint

on my own CA77 i did some repair on the bottoms with my tig welder and touched them up , no one notices

I am currently in the process of fixing up one of my mufflers. Yes, I cut it in half at the seam. It seemed to work pretty good. It allowed me to hammer out the dents. The seams are a little larger, but once I do some more work, I am sure it will be fine. The only thing to keep in mind to keep the cuts shallow because there are several baffles in the pipes. I hope this helps!
