Damn! I mean, Holy Cow...Kalumia01, you have a major score...!

I'd see if it started before I did anything to it - and THEN take it apart and refurbish it. Pistons for these bikes are 'kinda pricey' to say the least, and if it does run, that's one less thing you have to worry about...

Fresh gas, fresh plugs and fresh battery and see what happens! Why was it in the shed for so long??

Hey Guys,

Here are some pics of the new project, finally!!!!!

What I do know about the bike:

The guy I bought it from bought it in 1968 from the original owner. He rode it until 1986 then sold it to his brother so he could buy a gold wing. His brother rode it one time and layed it over which bent the right handlebar and the rear of the front fender. Brother parked it, so my guy bought it back in 1986 and retitled it into his name. Title says it had 10,600 miles on it in 1986. He rode it about 1000 miles, then parked it and it has not ran since 1989, in which it was stored in a shed at his house. He now has a Goldwing Trike, and a Valkyre so he decided to get rid of it.

To sum it up, his loss.....MY GAIN!!!!!

Details:
-11,600 original miles
-Motor has good compression, turns over freely
-Static shifts thru all the gears
-The tank is RUST FREE
-All of the body parts are there, minus the rusted out mufflers it is COMPLETE
-Clear Title
-Came with the original key, and original owners manual which is MINT
-Front Tire is original ribbed whitewall (needs replaced though)

So far what I can tell that I need to get are:
-Throttle Cable
-Front Brake Cable
-Carb Rebuild Kit
-Tune-up/oil change parts
-New fuel lines/fuel filter
-Air Filter
-Mufflers of some sort (since OEM are next to impossible to find, and they are very expensive as a re-pro set)
-Steering Damper Knob
-Tires (these hold air but are cracked and aged)
-Handlebars (these are tweaked just a bit on the right hand side)
-Battery
-Seat Cover

**If anyone has a good source for any of these parts that can help get me started, I would welcome some advice!!!!**

I think that I am going to get only the parts needed to get it running first, just to be sure it will run. Then once I hear it roar, I will begin the work to restore it.

As far as the body and chrome, I think I am going to leave the paint as-is. I love the patina, and the aged look of that paint. All of the chrome is in very good shape, with only minor pitting and oxidation. So with some elbow grease and a lot of polishing it should turn out very nice.

Ill keep everyone updated as I progress in the project. It will be a few weeks before I can get to work on it, finishing a shed/landscaping project right now.

Hope you all enjoy as much as I do!!

Good deal!
Here is a link to some parts suppliers:

Most late model Dream handlebars seem to be bent slightly at the exit hole for the throttle cable.
Careful if you order a new clutch cable, as there are several different lengths.
The Silver manuals available on this site are definitely worth getting.
Choosing mufflers can be an adventure if money is an object at all.
Good luck!

Thanks a lot guys, I am really excited about it!

I had just a few minutes to poke around on the bike today, and the first thing I found was that someone has been hacking around in the wire harness! Not so happy about that, but luckily the owners manual has a full wiring diagram in it, so I shouldnt have any issues getting it straightened out.

I plan first and foremost to get it running. I need to straighten up the wiring and get everything working there, then plan to work on the mechanicals. I need to get a throttle cable, and figure out an air filter, because theres no trace of a filter, or the filter door on it.

I plan to pick up some oil this week, and give it a change, along with new pluggs and clean up the carb.

Shouldnt take too much to get it running, just need to make sure it will fire before I get too carried away on the parts search!

Ill start a new thread when I get to work on it to update my progress.....but for now....I am still really excited to get this little piece of motorcycle history back up and running again!
