Key out.

Congratulations. I had the same feeling when I got the broken key out of mine. My joy was a little muted because I had had been so stupid about not turning the key to the right position. But, after I shouted "DOH!" a couple of times I was able to enjoy the success.

LOL Conbs, after you told me about that, I made sure that mine was in the right key position! It took maybe 15 minutes and it popped out. Now I have to get another key made. Wish me luck on that. Btw, I still have not found the frame number. On my 63 305 Dream its on the lower part of the frame below the battery cover however, as of now, I can't see it at all. So it looks like I will be doing a tear down sooner than I thought. I was hoping to find it so I could register it in my name BEFORE the tear down. But oh well, such is life.

Frame number

Kellie, I agree with your instinct to get it titled in your name before tear down. In my state the bike needs to be pretty complete or they will not give you a title. If you tear it down first, you will have to wait until you are about done putting it back together. If you run into any problems, you might be sitting there with a completed bike, unable to ride it. If things really got bad and you found a frame number that was listed as a stolen bike, the police would impound your completed bike immediately. Now THAT would be a bummer.

Take lots and lots of pictures as you disassemble it. You apparently have a very unique bike and documenting it for posterity is a responsibility of owning such a gem.

Based on your last effort, I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

California's the same way, or at least it has to LOOK like it's ready to ride, they don't check anything operational (or at least they didn't on mine.) All you need is the serial numbers to have them check for being a stolen bike, don't have to go as far as registering it. I'd at least do that before sinking any more money into it.

Yeah we had that problem for the 305. We had CHP run the numbers before resto, but we didn't register it until after the rebuild was complete. I don't mind registering it right away and then starting the resto. If I can just find the damn frame number.Im thinking it MIGHT be covered up with some of the kick stand hardware. We shall see. And we took lots and lots of pictures on the 305... and im sure we will do the same for this build. Thank goodness for digital cameras and the internet!!!

Is it just me, or are the people on ebay mixed up? I have been scouring the Earth for an EARLY style Dream BATTERY COVER. On my bike that makes it the "left hand side of the bike" however, when I search ebay, I get lots of "left" covers that look an awful lot like the RIGHT hand cover to me. Correct me if I'm mistaken. The side cover that I need has the 7" flange at the bottom that fits into the groove of the battery box. Anyone know where I can find one? UGHHHH
