Need help with year

Whoops! 3 is the first digit of the frame and the year. Mine is a 3 also and 1963. Sorry about that.

Hi guys
Newby user here.
We have 6 Engines and are restoring 3 bikes all CA77 Dreams.
I have been looking for the formula for identifying the years of these engines. Looking at this page I am confused. if the first number is the year then how is the first one inthis thread a 65?
Sorry to be so Nieve but can you guys help?
here are 5 of my 6 numbers
CA77E31695
CA77E210092
CA77E103882
CA77E212478
CA77L319362
I understand the frame Vin's are on the left side of the body above the peg mount is this correct?

CA77L319362 1963 NO (L) THE FRAME NUMBERS ARE WHERE YA SAY
1965 WAS FIRST YEAR FOR MOST OF THESE BIKES
TO HAVE 7 RATHER THAN 6 DIGITS

I suspected the the one was missing a number and that the "L" is actually an "E". my father did the checking so I was un able to tell for myself.
