whitewalls

Post by Kevmcp » Fri Jun 04, 2010 7:55 pm

They look fantastic, just a little nudging to fit.....and every once in a while a small gap. Get some 3M epdm glue to get rid of the gaps so they fit flush, but, considering you can get any tires you want and make them into whitewalls, quite a deal. And, if they ever get ruined you can get another set.

Thanks, Kevmcp.
Was wondering what the 1" width would look like.
I like the look of the narrow whitewalls better than the wide, but these may be in between.
Will post some pics when I get them.

Got mine delivered today. Installation was a lot easier than I thought.
Just de-flate the tire and insert the strips. There are some pretty detailed instructions for installation on cars on the web, including a lot of sanding, prep and cleaning?
I just wet the strips down with a rag and they went right on.
The first side came out perfect the first time.
The second side took 3 inflations before I was satisfied with the alignment.
Got them here:

Kevmcp,

I like the end product. I'm going with the firestone blems myself. I'm wondering which road you took for your hubs? I have been reading many posts on this subject. Some bead blast, some powdercoat, some get out the goops and rags and start polishing. I can't decide what is best for me. The bike is all torn down and now is my best chance to make it happen. I'm going with the Tai rims. I have read the posts on these as well so I'll cross that bridge... Anyway just wondering how you handled it?

Installation Tip

Post by brewsky » Sat Jun 12, 2010 5:10 am

Think I found the trick to perfect 1st try installation.
The first 2 sides I visually aligned the strips before inflating, one came out perfect, and the other took extra attempts.
On the second tire, I noticed a distinct "pop" when pressing on the strip with my thumb close to the rim. I went around the strip pressing every couple inches until the "pop" occured and both sides came put perfect the first time I inflated.
The beads of the strip have 3 or 4 raised rings that are under the rim and evidently one of them finds it's correct place when it "pops".
