no fireNot a bad looking bike.
You need to make sure the contact points are clean. I use some electrical contact cleaner on a small strip of business card to get things clean enough to get a spark. If the points are really corroded or pitted you will need a new one. Then you need to set the gap to .014" when the points are at the most open point. Look at the points cam lobe to make sure the points are open to the widest point. This should at least get you closer to getting some spark at least. I also recommend a manual. No sparkKevin, did you ever get your spark problem figured out? Don't get discouraged. There is plenty of help on this site and a bunch of people eager to help and cheerlead for your success.
The key position thing is not obvious, but if your neutral light comes on and/or your horn works, you should have spark. Having the lights on while you are trying to start it gives you less juice for spark. That is a great looking bike. I wish I had a windshield like that.
No luck with the fire to the plugs yet. However, I did pull the points cover and had a quick look. I think for the most part, the points looked good (i.e. no dust, no pitting, no corrosion). I am going to post a pic of it soon.
Thanks for the encouragement though. I would like to trouble shoot the electrical components with a voltage meter but I really don't know enough about it to do it. Is there any way to check the voltage/current going to the points?
