possibilities, sounded louder as you moved down. could it be the starter chain/sprocket/starter clutch area?
and double check your procedure on the cam chain adjustment
Help me diagnose a ticking noise? Video attached.

Re: Don't think it's the valves
You say zero play.
Did you not set them to .004?. .........lm

I pulled the starter chain cover. It looks like everything works as it should. Chain stops moving once the engine is going. I'll double check the cam chain adjustment.Tango911 wrote:possibilities, sounded louder as you moved down. could it be the starter chain/sprocket/starter clutch area?

Cam timing adjustment? Allowable slop in timing chain?
The timing chain adjuster is toward the end of its travel, but still has some room. Roller is in good shape.
I notice that with the stator set at "F" there's 1/8" of play in the cam. Does that indicate a worn chain?
I tried using a long stick held to the case (someone suggested that on Youtube) and localized it to the right side (chain side) around 2" behind the spark plug. That seems confusing to me since there's really nothing there to be making noise unless it's the piston itself.
I'd prefer not to pull the head since it's good riding weather. Any other input?
Thanks

To me, it sounds too slappy to be a piston.Cheburashka wrote:The timing chain adjuster is toward the end of its travel, but still has some room. Roller is in good shape.
