Left Clam

Post by conbs » Mon Feb 08, 2016 8:33 pm

Over time the ears that are on the right clam shaft do wear down a little. Because those clams are so dang expensive I took a file and dressed the top part of the ears and then took a small round file to deepen grooves where the tangs on the right clam shaft rest when the left clam is put in place.

Maybe I am just neurotic about it but, I can't bear losing one for no good reason. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

don't worry about the clam shells coming off. doesn't happen. you want to worry about something, worry about the side cover knobs vibrating loose. taillite mount cracking, headlite vibrating dead, chain case rusting out.
Good luck

I did the same as conbs. I filed the notch where the tangs sit a little deeper.

Oh that's it, I'm going out and file my notch. I think I'll find a tougher spring too.

Lost My Carb Cover

Post by ericmanuel » Sat Mar 19, 2016 7:07 pm

Don't know when or where I lost it. I got up and rode the 50ish(each way) miles to the NOLA Vintage Gran Prix in New Orleans. Got home discovered my left side carb cover was gone.

So whoever has one they want to sell. I am the best kind of buyer. One who is desperate.

BTW: I think this thread jinxed me.

Thanks
ericmanuel
