I'm afraid that's as much help as I can offer as the guy who helped me restore my bike made me a new wiring harness. My knowledge of a wiring diagram is also very limited.
Hope you get it fixed.

The switch matrix shown in the electrical section shows which wires connect to each other in each position of the switch.

The header of the matrix shows which color wire attaches to the corresponding terminal of the switch.

The color wiring diagram allows you to see where each wire connects thru the harness,

Hi brewsky - can you be a little more specific? It would help me greatly if I knew exactly what and where to test, and what I should see.

For instance, that big male plug off the key switch plugs into the main wiring harness, which in turn branches off and goes into the stator and the coil, solenoid etc.

I assume all testing is done with the switch on so I have power in the system, but what wires do I test and where for each of the five settings?

For instance, to test the Ignition position (#3), I would put the voltmeter on the Black/Red wire, and test between the Black and Red wires, yes...? And I should get at least 12.5 volts at each wire....? Or....??? Or am I just testing for continuity?

I will of course be trying to figure this out in the meantime, but really specific instructions are much appreciated.

-John

I would start by disconnecting the ignition switch completely, and test each terminal to the others for continuity.

Terminals shown with a solid line between them in the switch matrix should show continuity with each other. None of the others should.
