It needs to have the knob pull it through the round part in the lever.
That is how the cable gets shorter and pulls the lever to the rear.
The cable moves and the sheath doesn't.
Have you held the threaded shaft with pliers and turned the knob?. ............lm

Dr. Frankenstein wrote:Right, but what I'm wondering is, where does that knob need to be to SHORTEN the travel distance that the brake shoe makes from the brake shoe to the brake to get a firmer contact? Farther down the threaded shaft, or more to the Left/end of the shaft - and then adjust at the handlebar?

The reason I ask is that I have tried every combination of front brake lever and front wheel, but still don't feel the brake engaging the wall of the wheel.

"Have you held the threaded shaft with pliers and turned the knob?"

I usually just slide the threaded shaft through the hole in the brake stay as far as it will go and then tighten it down with the round knurled brass end ...what am I doing wrong?

Hmmm - so why would I not be getting a good brake-feel...stretched, maybe...?

Could the cable be too long? Let me guess - they made two different sizes for the same bike: Early vs Late....

Yes.
One has the chrome sort of tube at the lever end.
Does that sheath come through the hole it should stop at on the backing plate?. ..................lm
