Sorry to hear your gasket didn't work out Kigs. For the record, Kigs was following a suggestion I made about adhering the gasket to the side cover itself (with some hylomar), then putting a light film of oil onto the other, mating side of the gasket. This is what I have done and it has worked really well for me. I've been able to remove and reinstall the cover numerous times with the same gasket undamaged.

My bad on the Mr - Sorry! The early version has a small off-center hole for the oil spinner, the late version has the larger hole. I thought you had the late version for some reason, and all of my advice on the oil spinner was based on that. If you have an early one, there would have been no way to hook the chain back up with the cover on - sorry again!. Anyway, I attached a picture of both. The shifter seal and gasket are the same on both.

Those gaskets from Classic Honda Restoration should be OK - the Honda version is nla as of recently anyway. It doesn't take much of a gouge in either surface to cause a leak though. You can use a little JB Weld to fill them in but be careful not to make the problem worse by using too much or sanding a depression into the surface.

The key to those 6mm Phillips screws is to use a hand impact driver (Sears) and the correct (#3) bit.

The good news is that you can go ride as soon as your done! We here up north have a few months to wait...

No more leak!! I ordered a new gasket from Honda. It did look like it was a higher quality gasket and it seemed to fit better. The green one kind of peeked out between the case and the cover. This one is black and lined up perfectly. No more leak! Before I closed it all up, I double checked the oil filter again to make sure I put it back together using the earlier picture. I hear there were alot of changes after they made my bike in 1962, so not everything in the CA77 parts and shop manual work with my bike. I now have a CB77 manual and hopefully between the two, I can get things done. Thanks all for the help!!

I'm glad to hear you got it all worked out! We haven't had time yet to work on my bike, with work and Christmas approaching. Maybe that's what I will ask Santa for, (To get my bike running!). We will work on it this weekend. Who would have thought that it would take us this dang long to get it RUNNING!!!!!!

Well you'll know if you've been bad if it doesn't start on Christmas! You've done the hard part and it looks gorgeous. You'll get it running and then you can let us all know what it was and we can all learn something! I met up with some VJMC.org people this weekend and picked their brains dry. They were all so nice and I found out lots of good info and made some contacts. Maybe your bike is just being dramatic and wants to make a big entrance into the world of the running on Christmas morning!

That's all I can say about it at this point! Have a very Merry Christmas everyone!
