I hear you. I just hate my nice clean old bike sounding like a jalopy as I maneuver in slow speed situations.

How difficult are the shocks to remove? It looks like a bit of a pain in the A, honestly.

I just charmed a friend by showing him what a nice squeak my dream makes,
only it's my rear shocks, but it's identical to that sound.
i too find it pretty awesome.

anyhow,

Can't speak from experience,
but from the parts diagram it looks like you need to remove the wheel, chrome trim and covers
and that shock should just unbolt and slip down and out.
Anyway, doesn't seem like it could take more than an afternoon to pull those out
clean and lube everything especially the pivots and reinstall.
seems like that would take care of you.

Or just squirt a can of wd40 all over the place.

My rears make the same sound as well, but not nearly as loudly.

I think next weekend is the target date. Noises drive me batty.

Two questions:

1. Are the bolts that hold the front fender in place against the forks keyed in some way? Such that you simply remove the nut from the inner fender-well and the bolts slide outward?

2. Do the bolts that hold the front fender to the forks also anchor the top of the front shocks? The parts fiche is unclear about location and I think the upper front shock bolt is depicted at the bottom of the diagram below as part # 28. There are only two bolts on each fork and the top ones appear to go only to the steering stem.

I agree the parts diagram leaves a lot to be desired,
but after taking a quick peek at my bike,
I still think that you just need to remove the wheel, chrome covers and trim and that lower bolt on the fork and the shock should slip down. If you look on the inside of your fender it's the only one you can see - I'd give that a go. I'd be stunned if it was much more complicated than that.

good luck.
