Hey, thanks!
It was running...okay. I had thought that the strangeness was coming from an improperly adjusted mixture and/or idle. But now, I'm second guessing it all and not really sure what I think.
So tonight I chatted with a friend who has ridden far more motorcycles in his life than I probably ever will (and had also ridden my Dream not too long ago). He's got me back to thinking that before I make any decisions I really should inventory what parts I'd need for a complete rebuild.
I have courtesy privileges (I'm not sure what else to call it) at a local MC shop, so the Dream has been hanging there ever since they towed me when I had a case of the No Go. I have another bike that I need to time so I'll probably ride over there next week to do that. I can start to assess what's what - when this all went down I was so bummed I didn't really want to spend any time with it for a while, but I think I'm ready.
I'll return with a report, I'm sure.

Rebuilding a motor is never cheap of course, but it might be an idea to chat to LM and see what he could do for your existing motor. If I were you I'd offer to send him pictures of what you have and what seems to be worn out so he can better assess it.
I haven't spoken to Ed about this offer I'm making on his behalf, but I know he can tell you if it's a good idea or not.
How bad can it really be in there? Was it running fine before the screw came loose?
