Plastic side cover

I have c 77 -62 project whit low bar and square winkers. I was thinking why my bike`s left side cover is plastic? Can it be original part?
Can anybody tell what are differences between "early" and "later" models?

I'd say that if ya have a plastic side cover someone has changed it.

Bent the steel one or to allow the wider battery to fit. ..................lm

Something must be happened to original..? Funny, cause plastic model looks just like it. There is also "HM" letters inside.

That is a OEM HONDA part but not for your bike.
A 62 used a longer thinner battery than the later bikes.
So I'd say someone that had the bike before you changed the cover for the new more available battery. ........................lm
