A DREAM coming to life

Post by Maloymerc » Mon Mar 05, 2007 4:20 am

Greetings everyone!
I'm Marlon from the Philippines and i recently acquired a 1965 C77 Dream 305.

I'm in my early 30's and since i was a kid, i've always dreamed of having a motorcycle, but it was only last year that i bought a Honda Wave (100cc Cub from Thailand), and also my first to ride a bike.

I have always liked the appeal of vintage vehicles (I had a 1967 VW Beetle for 11 years), and when someone offered me the Dream, I instantly fell in love with it.

Being a novice at motorcycle riding, i am definitely in the dark when it comes to restoration. Fortunately, I'll have some assistance from my Uncle who also recently purchased two Hondas ( 1976 CB 360 and a Clubman 250), which will be restored alongside mine.

My goal is to bring this Dream to life, not so much as a showroom collector's item, but a very clean looking bike you can ride anytime without worries.

I am hoping that this SITE will be very helpful in attaining my goals, and of course, the knowledge and know-how I will receive from you Dream Owners in the States.

By the way Paul, (4shorts) kudos to your Dream! It's really awesome! Wish i can make mine look as good as yours.

Thank you in advance and more power to you all.

Be posting pics soon...

First of all let me say welcome to the board and congratulations on getting your Dream. they sure are a nice little bike and out of all the things I've restored I think my Dream was the thing I liked the most. You going to have allot of fun working on yours I'm sure. Your in the right place by being on this board because there's allot of knowledgeable folks here that really know there bikes so If you have any questions feel free to post them.

When you get the time post some pictures of your bike. We would love to see them. Thanks for the compliments on my bike but I'm most sure yours will look as good or better if you put some extra time into it. We'll be waiting for those pictures. Ride safe. Paul

Thank you for the warm welcome Paul. I'm very happy to know that though we're thousands of miles apart there are still people out there who are willing to help out in hobbies like these. I will be in deep gratitude for all the tips and advice that you, Paul, the rest of the forumers will share as I go through this journey. By tomorrow, restoration will begin and hopely (cross my fingers!) there won't be any major/crucial parts to be replaced due to the scarcity of parts here in our country (the cost buying parts there and shipping it here will definitely burn multiple holes in my pocket!).

The bike is pretty much complete and runs well, though i found a few oil leaks...

I am really confused with what color I should paint it...I was thinking of Black but I loved the Rio Red on yours.
Being in that "stage" of semi customizing vintage vehicles ( my VW had what the VW community called a Resto-Custom), i'm considering maybe a factory color but with more flare, maybe metellic red or black, or a pearl white, or candy green, or maybe a custom gold (charlie's 1966 Scrambler).
Whatever the case, that would be the only "custom" portion of the bike, the rest would left as "resto" or factory.

I'll be posting pictures in the Restoration part of the forum once its begun.

Thanks again.

Marlon

Marlon I'm sure no mater what color you go with it will look great. With reguards to thousands of miles between us, we're all like family on this site so miles don't count.

I like your ideas already and can't wait to see the start of the project. Take lots of pictures before and after. It make folks appreciate your work more and how much had to go into the project. You'll notice I didn't go stock with mine either. I like to play around with my projects. I also know the cost of doing this kind of stuff. I live on an island on the East Coast of Canada and everything I got for the Dream had to be shipped to me (Ouch) but It was still enjoyable.

Good luck and we'll look forward to seeing your project unfold. Paul

Thank you for the words of encouragement Paul. The Dream is now down to the frame, and it seems the front end is a bit crooked and needs to be straightened out. Other than that everything just needs to be cleaned and repolished/chromed/repainted.

One thing i noticed though...the front fender is made of fiberglass...hmmm...is this stock or a factory option? Or should this be steel like the rest of the body?

To tell the truth I've never seen a plastic fender on a Dream but then again I've only seen about three Dreams. I know mine was steel. Maybe someone on here have seen a plastic fender on a Dream??? Nice to hear your making some progress on your bike. Enjoy, Paul

Well Paul, i've started posting pictures of the restoration.I'll keep posting as it progresses.
with regards to the fiberglass fender, it may have been an option here in our country or then again maybe it was fabricated due to the lack of a steel fender. In any case, it looks pretty stock.

By the way, my Dream also has winker controls on the right side...unfortunately, there are no winkers.
