bad weekend with motor

Post by n8sjh » Sun Jul 20, 2008 2:50 pm

So I got back into my project dream that was free. 1966 CA-77 305. I pulled the motor a few months ago. Motor was stuck not sure why. The motor has sat with pb-blaster inside soaking for that time. I started to take off the top to the head no problem. Next I needed to get the timing chain off. luckily I could get to the master link near the chain tensioner. I put a shop rag behind the chain and popped off the clip to the link and it flew around the rag and down into the case. Ok no biggy maybe I can get it after the cylinders are off. So I start to tap the pistons out with a wood block and hammer. It took some time but got them moving out of the cylinder. Problem is in doing this both of the cylinder sleeves cracked. Then at the same time the chain dropped in the case ughh. So nothing seemed to go right with this.
So can you get new sleeves and pistons for this bike. Or am I out of luck. Or should I just look for another motor in a bike getting parted? Even though there are not alot out there?
Thanks n8sjh
