1967 CA77 with a stuck clutch

Post by tikimigs » Thu Oct 16, 2008 10:14 pm

Hi everyone,
New guy here, just getting into vintage motorcycles. Purchased a 1967 CA77 a little over a year ago. This was going to be my winter project then but a move made me put it on the back burner. Now I have some time and space and have started into my Dream project. I got the bike running but I think the clutch is seized. Bike runs great in neutral, but when I squeeze the clutch and shift into first, the bike lurches forward and stalls. Any advice on what is happening and how to get it unstuck?

Thanks,
TikiMigs

i would take the clutch basket apart and clean the clutch disks one at a time and put them back in the same order they came off, from sitting that long the oil gets sticky between the disks.

I would try and adjust the clutch first.
My dream did the same thing as it had been sitting for a long time with out being started. I think the plates must have gummed up.
I adjusted the clutch at all points as much as I could, then rode it around. The plates freed themselves and I adjusted the clutch back to a more realistic level and have had no problems.

Mine does that everytime I take it out. I just start it in neutral, then padal it up to speed, pull the clutch in even thought its still froze, pop it in to gear. I then rev it up and down in first gear and the clutch frees up and is good for the rest of the ride. I've had to do this with the old gal since I bought it in 1980. I did clean up the clutch back then, new plates and all but it has always had this problem. Just learn to live with it. I had a CB500 that did the same thing.
