C72 NOS Wheel Rime

Post by G-Man » Tue Apr 27, 2010 1:59 am

I thought I was lucky when I picked up David Silver's "only one left" NOS rim for my C72. I was surprised to find that it didn't have the usual DID logo but had KAGA on it instead.

Then I picked up another one in original packaging at the Classic Motorcycle Show at Stafford at the weekend. I couldn't believe my good fortune and the stall holder didn't seem particularly interested. He asked £15..

This one was also a KAGA rim so I am happier now. I have never seen this maker before. Did they just do early Honda stuff?

Kaga - who were they?

Lucky find - twice!

Packaging hasn't survived well but the rim is OK.

I'm curious about the spoke angle.
What ya think? ....................lm

I'll check them against the wheels I have just dismantled and get some more pics. They are small diameter rims laced to large hubs so I suppose that the angles will be quite steep.

Ed

Here are some comparison pictures. Looking at the three rims (off the bike, Dave Silver and Stafford Show) by eye they look pretty similar. The camera close-up shows a reasonable match, too. The two new rims do look a little more radical than the old one. The wrapped rim (fancy script logo) is identified as a rear. It seems that Honda superseded the front and rims to just one part number.

I'll be re-building the wheels soon so I'll let you know how well they go together.

Interestingly the rim I just unwrapped shows a different logo design. The David Silver rim has a much simpler stamping. Have you heard of Kaga?

Hi,

I saw a CB92, I thought it was a '59, with KAGA rims, I also saw a CD175 with KAGA rims, but never on a dream (maybe I wasn't looking). I'll take a look at my dream parts and motors, I'll keep you informed,

I don't know that I've ever seem that name.
I'm curious how they mount as so many of the rims from the Middle East lately don't have the proper angle and bend the spokes.
Not Good. ...............lm

I have some spokes on order and just need to get the hubs polished before I reassemble them. I've done quite a few wheels so it will quickly become apparent if they aren't going to go together.

I cleaned the paint off my painted original rim and that has Kaga written on it too.

Watch this space....
