Picked up a dream

Post by Tango911 » Tue Jul 27, 2010 9:26 pm

Just getting into vintage motorcycles. Found this Dream. Had been in the Sloan Museum for a couple years. The owner did a nice job on some metal work, and some paint, but the upper part of the engine he kind of rushed. Everything is working great other than the engine is dripping a little oil from some spots around the head. Im assuming ill need to tear down the upper engine and replace some gaskets. The start button sticks on, so i unconnected it, for now and just kick start. One kick start, this thing runs great.

Oh yeah i know, he kind of messed up the seat, the chrome bead is suppose to be around the bottom of the seat correct?

Any suggestions or anything that stands out, let me know, thanks

here are a couple pics.

Tango,
Nice looking bike and yes the trim does belong at the lower part of the seat. Welcome to the forum and you might want to update your profile to let us know where you live. Cliff

It's beautiful- congratulations.
From what I can see the only inaccuracies in the restoration are:
A)Many parts of the engine are polished where they would have been painted originally. These include the carb covers and side covers. The lower cyl head and header flanges would have been painted the same flat aluminum.
B)The detailing of the logo - is it painted gold?- on the footpegs and side cover knobs is also inaccurate; they were pure black.
C) The seat chrome, but we've covered that already.

That said it's entirely up to you if you want 100% accuracy from your restoration. In my eyes your bike is just beautiful the way it is- again, congratulations.

That starter button is a relatively simple mechanism- you should be able to repair it with very little difficulty (although I kick start all the time anyhow). As far as gaskets, I'm about to do the same thing and everyone here advised me that Honda OEM was the only way to go!
'63 CA77 - Giving me all kinds of headaches.
'64 CA77 - Patiently waiting it's turn
'65 CB77 - A 'great winter project'

tango911...beau.tiful bike. the chrome trim on the seat, do you know if it the trim uses double sided tape? if so it can be removed and be relocated to the botom of the seat. that trim can be purchased from autozone or advance auto parts store or similar
anything is possible if you have the drive blood sweat and tears to get it done!

thanks a ton guys for the coments and suggestions. yes id rather have a good running nice looking bike to use. 100% restore would be nice but im not that mechanically inclined. Ill post more pics of the leaks soon to get your opinions.

I live in indy btw and will update my profile when i get a chance.

Is it offensive to post how much i paid for it on here? Or what you think it is worth. I shopped around alot and thot i researched enough, but would like to know what its worth even tho not 100% origional. I know the market is prob down a bit due to the economy and all. I will prob sit on this bike for a long time i love it.

Thanks again for the fast responses most forums people are slow to reply.
