Powder coat or paint?

Post by Jethro » Fri Sep 03, 2010 8:15 am

Hi
I'm not sure if I want to spend what it takes to get my '63 Dream powder coated. If I did it would be purely for the purpose of the durability of it. But I have a good spray gun, experience with it, and a good place to paint. Just not a lot of spare time for surface prep. Is the powder coating really worth it?

Having done both, I do prefer the powder coat for the frame parts just for the durability. For me,on the bike I'll have for a while, powder coat is worth the extra cost. I got lucky and got a really great deal though. RW

I'm strongly considering using powdercoat to do the whole bike on my current restoration, including the tank, forks, sidecovers, etc..... Just in low-nylon content black powdercoat. The downside is you can't cheat & use filler
