New to forum and need some dream info

Post by gkp741 » Sun Apr 17, 2011 9:40 pm

Hello. Great info on the site! I have a 1965 Dream and am trying to get it up and running.

I need recommendations or information on the following:
Need a horn
Need a battery
What MPG is average?
Mufflers look fine but are missing internal baffles? I would like to tone it down.
Is there a source for a blank key?

Thanks.

I can help out a bit, but I'm a newbie too. The battery that works best is sold by a guy on Ebay. It's a NOS Japanese battery in a size that isn't made anymore. He's been selling them for around $45. The 12A3n-1doesn't fit well. Here's a closed auction for the NOS battery: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-Hond ... ccessories

The key will have a letter/number code. That's also stamped on the lock. The letter seems to indicate a blank pattern and the number is the cut. You can generally get pre-cut keys to match your lock. Sometimes they're on Ebay, and there are a couple of outfits you can google that sell them.

Good luck.

You don't necessarily HAVE to have the correct battery. The one I put in my '64 is an AGM battery and suits it just fine when it comes to electrical supply and need. It's smaller in size than the original but I just put some foam blocks on the sides to keep it still in the tray. So you do have some options there. As far as the key goes, I recently took an ignition from a CL350 to a local locksmith and they looked up the number and made a couple up for me in about 5 minutes. They charged me $15 for two keys.
A horn and baffles are something you might look for on e-bay. (search this forum for other's experiences with baffles)
I can't give you an accurate idea for fuel economy. You may want to look at upgrading the rectifier if it hasn't been done already.

Battery

The Dream battery was changed mid-year in 1965. Make sure what size battery you need before buying.

The ignition switch has "T7644" on it. Anyone have a key?

Does anyone have jetting or carb suggestions for 5,500 foot elevation?

I found a web site with the muffler baffles, I will first try some for CT90/110's.

Is there a source for the spark advance unit? I think mine might be bad?

Thanks for any and all help.
