Second digit
Are you sure that second digit in your frame number is a "6"?

Frame number
Can you post some pictures of your bike? Is there anything different about it? If the "6" is really a "0", you have a normal, numbers-matching bike. If it really is a "6" then you may have a bike that was originally some kind of special order.

Thanks for the info. I work on it periodically at my shop and am away during the week in another city. Next time I am there I will scrutinize the numbers....they are really hard to read on the frame. Seems to be nothing else special about the bike that I can tell. Have pics under restoration 1967 ca77.

Year
7 digit frame numbers started in 1965 but there is no break down of how many units were produced in each of the years '65 through '67 when production ceased. Total of about 60,000 sold in US '60-'70 IIRC. Fewer produced in 60-62. So I would guess a '66. '65 tag is not necessarily inconsistent with that.
If you don't have a title, do you know where it was last licensed? That state may have it in their database still which would give you a "year" as well.
Go to your DMV and have them do a 50-state search to make sure it is not reported stolen somewhere. They sometimes get info from that search that they will not share with the public, but if you may be able to get the DMV guy to help you "guess" at the year of your bike. You will need to have them do the 50-state search anyway.
We are used to dealing with model years for most vehicles. Your bike was manufactured before federal law gave us standardized "VIN" numbers. Back in the day, these bikes were normally titled in the year the dealership sold them and that was the "year" of the bike. Even the parts manuals provide part numbers according to your frame number, not the year the bike was manufactured. In the end you may have to just pick a a year and go with it. Let us know if you need more info for DMV.
