FIBER FRICTION CLUTCH PLATES

I ordered a set of clutches for a 1966 305 Dream.....The clutches seems to be a hair smaller that the originals..... I heard that some have 3mm and some have 4mm...... Is there a big difference and will the smaller one work ??????????????????

Early machines used 4mm clutches, but one less of each disc in the pack (4 friction plates.) Did you measure them? the 4mm only came in all fiber, the 3mm came in all fiber or aluminum core (which is best.)

So Stan, Are you saying the 3mm ones will work if I had 4 mm one in it from the factory ?????? I ordered by year model and this is what I recieved.....When I got the clutches apart the ones in the bike were slightly fatter than the ones I recieved but just barely......

Check this link and it should answer your questions, but simply a complete 4mm or 3mm clutch will work. There 4,5 and 6 plate setups, so you need the right amount for your total stack thickness to be correct.
